Report Wed 7th June 06

Post by Brad » Fri Jun 09, 2006 2:08 am

7/6/06
Well, another week of reasonable weather has passed again, with plenty of captures being reported from out wide and in the rivers. Early in the week saw a few bigger boats head offshore to get stuck into some reefies with some good red emperor to 26lbs. There were also some good trout, sweetlip, parrot and a few big mangrove jack just to stretch the lines a bit. Those who floated out a few livies got the odd Spanish mackerel and black king.
Some of the inshore grounds have been producing really well with some big grunter, good squire with the odd snapper and some good sweetlip. A few guys have been doing really well catching snapper on plastics using heavier jig heads and Berley Gulps in the five inch jerk baits.
The rivers have been alive with fish, with bream again being the most dominant species. Other captures have seen a few grunter caught on plastics, heaps of flathead, with most being oversize and the odd jack and cod.
The winter whiting seem to have moved in again off Burnett Heads with most anglers catching them in big numbers by drifting around using small long shank hooks with strips of squid and drifting them along the bottom.
Bass are still doing well with most coming off the weed edges on spinner baits, and soft plastics in the deep. The slowest retrieve you can do should result in a few hook ups.
Best breezes,
