Report Wed 21st June 06

21/6/06
Well, another week has passed and we saw a mix of weather - sun, rain and strong winds, so fishing was confined to the rivers and creeks.

Bream are still a hot favourite. They are big enough and in good numbers and a lot of guys have been doing really well with them on lures. Soft plastics have been preferred. The Berkley range has been a stand out, but a few have taken good numbers of bream on hard bodies, with the new Cultiva Mira Shads being number one.

Also, winter whiting have been a popular target down around the river mouth. They are around in good numbers and are of a reasonable size.

Around the mouth of the Burnett there are still some good tailor, small mackerel, trevally and some big flathead.

Some good squire, sweetlip and big school mackerel have been caught on the inshore reefs.

Bass have been on the chew in the dams. Throwing spinnerbaits around the weed edges has been the preferred method.

Don't forget, the VMR Bundaberg Family Fishing Classic is on this weekend. You can register at Burnett Heads, at the Blue Water Sports Club, from 4.30pm on Friday, or at the VMR Base from 7.00am on Saturday. Entry fees are $12 for adults, $5 for children under 15, or $25 for a family. There are many lucky draw prizes, with the major senior prize being a boat, motor and trailer. There are also prizes for fish caught in both senior and junior categories. Sausage sizzles and meals are available at the Blue Water Sports Club, and it's a great family weekend.

Best breezes,
Tim Mulhall
