Report 14/10/16

Post by subeditor » Fri Oct 14, 2016 10:57 am

Well, it’s almost here- the annual Win Television Lake Monduran Family Fishing Classic is being held this weekend, 15th and 16th of October 2016. There have been plenty of barramundi caught at Lake Monduran over the past few weeks, so with a bit of luck this year’s classic should be a cracker.

At this stage the weather is looking fine for the weekend ahead. The water temperature in the lake is between 24 and 26 degrees at present, and with the full moon on Sunday night, all the ingredients are ideal for hooking Australia’s number one sports fish – the barramundi.

Meanwhile, around Bundaberg the Burnett River is fishing fantastic. The water is crystal clear and the bait fish seem to be everywhere. The flathead are on fire at the moment. Big numbers have moved up around Splitters Creek and can be easily targeted using soft plastics.

Good numbers of bream, grunter, three-tooth jew, mangrove jack and the odd barramundi have also been caught during the past week down between Kirby’s Wall and the Port.

For anglers who enjoy chasing a few bass, Lake Gregory has been the place to go. Bass up to 50cm have been smashing poppers early in the shallows, then caught around the edges on spinnerbaits and tailspinners later as the day warms up.

Most of the Tackle World Bundaberg team will be attending the Monduran classic this weekend. On Friday night (14th October), Gary Leather will be giving an in-depth interview on stage with last year’s barramundi champion, Keith Whalley. They will be discussing the best lures and locations to target the mighty barramundi.

With $1,000 cash for the biggest barra caught for the weekend, and a boat, motor and trailer package, along with heaps of other lucky draw prizes, we hope to see you there on the weekend.

If you plan on fishing in the classic, don’t forget to buy your Stocked Impoundment Permit Scheme before heading up to Lake Monduran for the weekend. The permits are now issued electronically. You can get them online at https://www.qld.gov.au/recreation/activ ... hing/dams/
or you can phone 1300 575 359. They are also available at Post Offices and other selected outlets which are listed on the website.

until next time,

Dale Smith
