Report 29/12/16

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Dec 30, 2016 10:42 am

From all the Team at Tackle World Bundaberg, we hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and are looking forward to seeing in 2017 in style, hopefully with some new fishing gear that Santa may have left under the Christmas tree.

Other than a few showers the weather forecast isn’t looking too bad with gentle northerlies predicted over the New Year’s break.

Due to the rain we received on Boxing Day, all of our local rivers are running a little fresh, which is good news for the crabs and prawns but will make fishing a little difficult for the next few days.

If you’re keen for a fish, I would suggest fishing around the river mouths where the water should be better. These areas have been producing mac tuna, mackerel and queenfish just offshore, smashing through the large amounts of baitfish.

The rock walls near the mouth have also been producing the goods with good numbers of mangrove jack, estuary cod, threadfin salmon and fingermark all testing anglers skill as they either troll or cast lures along the rock walls.

By all reports the Burrum River didn’t get the rain that we had in Bundy, and it is fishing very well. Locals have been getting stuck into the prawns up the Isis and Gregory systems.

Lake Gregory still remain one of the most consistent and reliable bass impoundments in Queensland. At this time of the year the bass and saratoga have been very active, smashing surface lures both early morning and late afternoon. In the middle of the day try casting soft plastics which have been working a treat around the weed edges in 13-14 feet.

Finally, from the Tackle World Bundaberg team, we wish you a happy and safe New Year and let’s hope 2017 is a cracker.

Fish with confidence,

Dale Smith
