Report Wed 5th July 06

5/7/06
Last weekend saw a great few days of very light winds. This let a lot of people head offshore and most were well rewarded with some good catches of red emperor, coral trout, parrot, some big snapper, a few Spanish mackerel and big black king. A lot of smaller boats had the chance to head out to the inshore reefs and they too were well rewarded with some mackerel and small black king, some big snapper and sweetlip.

There's still some big numbers of winter whiting out the front of Burnett Heads, Woodgate and Toogoom. Yabbies and squid are the preferred baits.

Along the beaches there have been a few dart and whiting and some good numbers of tailor. Anglers have been getting them on chrome lures and pillies.

In the river there have been some good tailor, cod, some big bream and flathead. A few schools of winter whiting have been caught up the river also.

The bass have been on the chew in the impoundments, with spinner baits being a hot favourite.

The barra at Monduran are on the go with most fish coming from the back of shallow bays on shallow divers. Earlier in the week, Gary Leather and John Hutton caught three barra to 85cm on Tropic Angler B52 lures.

Best breezes,
