Weekly Report 21 May 08

Just a short report this week. Winter really arrived with a vengeance didn't it? I love it! Fishing was patchy though, with some parties getting good catches, while others (like me) didn't fare so well. A few Doggies are showing around the place. Around the islands they were of good quality - 600-650mm, while along the coast some in the smaller variety were taken. There were even a few Spotties taken off Double Heads. North of Yeppoon continues to score well, especially for grunter and mixed reefies. Inshore the water has cleared up a treat, so expect to see Blue salmon, steelback and bream on the chew. Flathead are making an appearance in the estuaries. Best tide to fish is half tide out. The Fitzroy River is also looking better by the day, and I hear fish are progressively moving upstream towards the city reach. If you haven't caught your supply of pre-winter crabs, you've probably missed the boat. Go and enjoy the crisp air.
