Weekly Report 25 Apr 09

The poor have been under attack lately as the weather gods allowed us to get offshore for a change. Some good reports of Spanish mackerel to 25kg
still coming in from most popular locations. Also bag limt hauls of quality Large Mouth Nannys from up north and out wide. Big heaps of undersized Red emperor just wide of the Keppels - looks good for the future for this species. There are the odd Doggie around the Keppels, but some good schools lurking
east of the Keppels if you go that little bit wider.

Some reports of improving catches in the estuaries, including a few early season lizards and whiting in particular. I was disturbed to hear a report of huge catches of grunter off Keppel Sands. Obviously some choose to ignore bag limits. How many grunter can you eat fellas? Some muddies still coming out of the river and Coorooman Creek and the odd legal barra still being taken in the city reach of the Fitzroy. There are very big dark moon night high tides this weekend. Not great for bottom fishing in most locations, but should be reasonable for an early morning mackerel attack. Could be worth a wander around the sandbanks in
the creeks on the afternoon lows in search of a lizard or two.
