Weekly Report 3 May 09

Post by Brad » Sun May 03, 2009 10:54 am

Last weekend again saw record numbers of boats heading offshore. The tides weren't ideal, being right on the dark moon, but that didn't seem to
deter too many. Some nice trout were taken from around the islands, while out wider and north the spanos turned it on for some parties. Doggies were
hard to find for some reason, but should progressively pick up in numbers from here on.

There are still reports of real quality Red Jew (Large Mouth Nannigai) coming in from many locations. Some of the fish are in the 5-7kg range - good by any measure. Most seem to be caught either just before first light, or after sun-down. Reports from some of the estuaries are that things are finally improving. Some really good whiting over 30cm have been caught in reasonable numbers, and the odd flathead are also making an appearance. Looks like we're going to get a blast of south-easterlies again, but at least most people have been able to get a fish fix.
