Spring has sprung, the grass is, well brown, I wonder where the fishies is? The weather last weekend allowed many to get offshore, but the fish were largely absent. Whale watching ended up keeping many a fishing party amused, and was a welcome distraction from the frustration of not finding any fish. The only slight bright spot was a few decent Doggie mackerel around the inshore islands and reefs despite the water being quite murky. Summer-like heat and gusty north to north-westerlies haven't improved things unfortunately.

So we can only look ahead with hope that the weather will moderate a bit. If it does, the small quarter moon tides might result in better catches. Early mornings around the inshore mackerel spots could be productive. The Fitzroy River should also come good after a quiet period over the large dark moon tides. Apparently there are huge Banana prawns in the river at present, so maybe that could be a clue for a couple of hours well spent swinging a cast net. Watching the footy finals are probably the best bet thruth be known.
