Weekly Report 8 Feb 11

The barra season has open and a few have been caught by rec fishers, the majority as usual by commercial netters. But that's a fair allocation model apparently. There were some barra caught on live perch in the backwaters in the city reach, but now a new small flow from the Issac River is coming down, that is probably the end of it for a while. People are learning to keep quiet about where they catch a barra - can't blame them. The Causeway runthroughs around the dark moon gave up a few, but many were undersized. Coorooman Creek should fish better this week as the tides drop off, as will Corio Bay.

The wide grounds have continued to produce good reefies and medium sized spanos have been biting outside the dirty water line and up north. Inshore the water is still like mud and it won't improve for months. But the trawler fleet is here in force. I counted over a dozen lights from my front deck this week.
Hope your in to a few.
