Weekly Report 1 Jul 11

From the sublime to the ridiculous this past week. Near gale force winds lashing the coast - not your typical winter weather by any stretch. The water in Keppel Bay is once again like soup from the stirred up sediment and will take a week of calm weather to settle down. So that leaves well offshore and up north the only options if the weather does drop out early in the week as predicted. Prior to the blow, spanos were still about and will still be there when next we can get out. There have been some early big fish amongst them - like around 30+kg! They have been taking well presented big ribbonfish and watos, however those who have dropped a metal jig to the bottom have also come up trumps with smaller fish.

The estuaries have been so so, with the odd nice flathead around and some schoolie sized Blue salmon on small lures worked hard on the last of the run out tide. They keep opening and closing the barrage gates on the Fitzroy River which isn't helping the river get back to normal. I'm going to enquire why they are doing this and not simply leaving one gate open all the time to as has always been the case in history. If you are fortunate enough to be retired or able to take days off at your leisure, early in the week seems the way to go.
