Report 24/06/14

Post by Nicole Penfold » Tue Jun 24, 2014 2:27 pm

We just had a perfect weekend, and winds are forecast to be around the 10 knot mark all week. Let's hope the fishing is just as good. There have been some good reports coming in from those that ventured out to the outer shoals like Douglas, Karamea Banks, Moresby Banks and Goodwin Shoals. We saw the red emperor, red throat and plenty trout and plenty of reports of big Spanish mackerel being landed as well.

On the closer in islands and reefs like the Keppel Island and Barren and Outer Rock there have been good reports of red emperor and trout being landed. Please remember that it is important to advise the coast guard of your destination in case of an emergency, and please check the weather prior to leaving. If you don't already keep tabs on the BOM and/or Seabreeze weather sites, here are the links to forecasts for our region: Bureau of Meteorology and Seabreeze.

All of the estuaries like Coorooman Creek, Corio Bay and Ross Creek have crabbed well, and it is pleasing to see that the mud crabs are still around with some reports of fishermen reaching their bag limits in 2 tides. Also there have been some good blue salmon landed and big grunter with one fisherman reporting landing a barra. The weekend is ideal for crabbing and in the side creeks of the main estuary due to the strong run in the tide.
There have been some reports coming in from those that fished the River with plenty of King salmon and grunter, with some fisherman landing barra. We will try and improve this river report next week as I will source some more fishermen to report back to me.

Tides: The tides with the black moon or new moon on Friday the coming weekend will see the high tide around 9am and 10am with the low tide around 3pm and 4pm they should be good as they are crabbing tides.

If you have any good stories on a fishing trip or a fish that you caught send it in to us at coucomscrabpots@gmail.com as we are always interested in great fishing stories.

Tip of the Week: Fishing is a sport, if we catch a fish it's a bonus!

Til next week, your local fisherman at Yeppoon
