Report 21/07/14

Post by Nicole Penfold » Mon Jul 21, 2014 3:58 pm

Hello all CQ fishers. I have been down due to having the flu as with most of Rocky at the moment. Starting to get back into rhythm!

In close the water is still slightly murky, which is proving difficult to find the mackies in close. However when the weather has been kind enough to get out wide there has been good reports of schoolies being caught. The Spanish have gone very quite with very few reports coming in. The estuaries are defiantly the pick at the moment with excellent grunter and salmon being taken on fresh caught prawns and mullet. Coorooman has some great schools of blue salmon travelling through. Live mullet is certainly the best bait for them. I would recommend a running ball sinker rigged behind 2 foot of 40 pound mono trace with a 4/0 hook. This is normally a sure fire way of enticing them when they are about.

Bangalee beach has also been producing salmon on the run out tide. Crabs are still being caught, not as many in numbers but they are certainly full. The port and Coorooman have been producing great numbers. Next weekend is looking perfect at the moment and my advice is to chase some of the mackies that might make their way in close. Squid have been caught by the plenty out at Man and Wife and they are excellent bait for reefies, especially when they are very fresh. I am looking forward to this weekend as the weather looks great and my health is back to a fishable level ☺ If you would like some photos posted send them through to fishingcq@hotmail.com until next time good luck and happy fishing.

The tight Lines fishing classic is held in Yeppoon annually and is still conducting the early bird entries until the 27th of July. Get your entries in online or at a participating venues and help support the local coastguard. The completion is held on the 29th 30th and 31st of August this year and is an excellent weekend for the family. You don’t even have to fish to win, as a huge majority of prizes are given away by lucky draws including the major first prize of a new car and second price a boat package.
