Report 7/8/15

Post by subeditor » Fri Aug 07, 2015 2:06 pm

Welcome to the fishing report of Central Queensland
Again the weather was on the fisherman’s side with the winds easing enough for them to venture out to the reefs and islands like flat and perforated island and around the Keppel island and inshore reefs. Fishing areas like Douglas shoals, Karamea banks, and other reefs around these area the wind didn’t drop enough to The smaller boats and there fishermen to venture this far, but there time will come. There were plenty of reports come in with grunter, silver jew and the painted sweetlip AKA mother in fish around Finlay’s Reef and also Ritamada, unfortunately the reports of mackerel being caught were thin and far between.
Now plenty of people fished and crabbed the estuaries and came home with a good feed of fish, there were plenty of crabs, salmon, grunter and flathead caught along with some big whiting. The best bait for the salmon has been squid, pilchards and herring and beach worm and prawns for the whiting and flathead. There were a lot of crabbers coming in saying that there are plenty of crabs around and the preferred bait was kangaroo tail. Most of the beaches like Farnborough, Kinka, Lammermoor and long beach had reports of whiting salmon and flathead caught on these beaches, they were fishing the top for the best results.
Now the weather for the weekend is looking good at this stage with light south easterly winds to around 12 knots, and the tide will be slow as we are entering the quarter stage of the moon phase. Please remember that the weather we give is a guideline please goes to the weather sites like seabreeze or the weather bureau site for a more comprehensive and up to date forecast. The tides for the weekend are

As you can see the quarter is on Friday I would suggest starting crabbing from about Sunday onwards.
