Report 14/8/15

Post by subeditor » Fri Aug 14, 2015 3:32 pm

Well at long last I can report that the mackerel are being caught in Keppel bay and the Keppel island, there were plenty of fishermen coming in and reporting good catches. There have been good reports of reef fish caught, but the fisherman that usually venture out to the outer reef like Douglas shoals, Karamea banks this was a non event. There were plenty that fished Flat and perforated and the local reefs like Finlay’s and the Ross’s reef and came back with a good feed of mackerel and reef fish.
Estuary and beach fishing have certainly been good with the big whiting and flathead caught and now the blue salmon are certainly adding to the entertainment, with most of the beaches fishing well. Farnborough beach and Kinka beach saw plenty of salmon caught with most of the other beaches having good whiting and flathead caught there. There have been some crabs caught in all of the estuaries with Corio crabbing the best, but the numbers have certainly dropped with the cooler weather here.
Now the weather for the weekend is looking good at this stage with light south easterly winds to around 12 knots, and the tides will be big as we have the new moon this Friday. Please remember that the weather we give is a guideline please goes to the weather sites like seabreeze or the weather bureau site for a more comprehensive and up to date forecast.

Now you have the latest information an weather information the rest is up to you, please enjoy your fishing and always abide by the rules and regulations and think of the future generation that will be fishing these waters. Only take what you want and rember that fishing is a sport if you catch a fish it is a bonus.

Al’s tip of the week: if it is not your crabpot then don’t check it or steal it, Don’t become part of the low life that do this sort of thing

Till next week enjoy the fishing
