Report 27/8/15

Post by subeditor » Thu Aug 27, 2015 1:35 pm

If you haven’t been fishing for a while this weekend is the perfect time to go out and catch a fish, as the weather is looking good for the weekend, and you can even fish the tight line competition run by the Yeppoon Coast Guard. Over the past week there have been a few venturing out to Flat and Perforated Islands and to the closer reefs like Finlay’s and around the Keppel island. Plenty of reports of mackerel and good reef fish being caught with the better reports from those that fished around Flat, only a few of our diehard fisherman ventured to the area like Douglas shoals, Karamea banks they reported good catches of red reef fish and Spanish mackerel. I am sure they will be venturing out this weekend to be part of the competition and also take advantage of the good weather, please come into the shop and let us know how you went.
Beach fishing certainly has stepped up a gear with the light winds and small tides there were plenty that tried their luck on the beaches and came back with a good feed of fish, the best reports came from those that fished Farnborough beach and Kinka beach. There were good reports of big whiting salmon and flathead, plenty of tourists last week came back and commented on how good the fishing was on the beaches.
The estuaries saw the same fish caught on the beaches with some fisherman also reporting the odd barra being caught as well, the only reports that came in from the weekend was the fact the crabs have certainly dropped off with some crabbers only reporting one or two crabs for the 2 tides, the best thing is they will return, and we have had a great season, with plenty of crabs being caught over the season again. Corio Bay saw best reports of crabs being caught then at Coorooman creek, we can only try again this weekend.
The weather this weekend is looking good or I should say great with the winds from the north and north east and very light, this is all the way over the weekend and also start of next week as well.
