Report 6/11/15

Post by subeditor » Fri Nov 06, 2015 1:41 pm

With the closure of the barramundi season we felt like trying our luck for the last time this year, and our trip was successful with the barramundi in the photo caught just before the closure at Corio Bay. We did catch another one the next night while fishing for King salmon and returned it to the water ready for February. We also went outside the bay and targeted the mackerel for the morning and again this was very successful with an esky coming back with about 30 mackerel in it. Now is the time to catch a mackerel as the bay is loaded with them, and Corio bay is full of herring which is the bait we used to catch the salmon and barramundi. There were plenty of reports of barramundi being caught at Roslyn Bay, Coorooman and the Causeway Lake. The crabs have increased with some crabbers catching more crabs then they have been over the past few months, and they have reported plenty of very soft crabs being caught please check them and put the soft crabs back please.
Well the wind has dropped and the fishermen should be heading out this weekend, I am sure there will be plenty heading out wide to the areas like Karamea Banks Johnson patch and areas on the northern side of the green zone north of perforated will be targeted.
Remember you don’t have to travel wide for a feed, as you can catch a mackerel around Iron Pot Island and also around the Keppel islands as well. Now don’t forget we have the coral fin fish closures the second and last one for the year on the 9th November to the 13th November and this is for all area along the Queensland coast.
Fishing tip’s by Coucom’s Crabpots & Fishing Gear
Try the estuaries like Causeway Lake, Coorooman and Corio bay for a King Salmon, flathead or even the stray mackerel and use Pilchards, prawns, or live bait. There are plenty of good soft plastics or hard body lures to try as well.
Try Corio headland, Finlay’s and around the Keppel’s for a mackerel using pilchards, Garr or use the good old spoon lure as we have been using. Try the areas like Flat and perforated and barren and outré rock for the Spanish mackerel, there will be limited reef fishing with the coral fin fish closure.
Try crabbing at all the estuaries as you should catch a crab, but remember there are plenty of soft crabs there so please remember to put them back. Use roo tails, mullet heads or fish frames as bait remember that chicken will make the crabs sick.
These are the tides for the weekend, the weather is ideal for fishing with the winds mostly from the north to northeast and all around the 10knot mark.

Al’s tip of the week: Good bait good fish.
Any photos or information about fishing that you feel others need to know about it can be dropped in or email them to coucomscrabpots@gmail.com we are also on face book at Coucom crabpots look us up there as well.
