Report 4/10/16

Post by Nicole Penfold » Tue Oct 04, 2016 8:56 am

Firstly I would like to inform you that I have had to write this report as Jess has been away with a family member very sick, our thoughts are there with the family.

Central Queensland this week the weather seems very up but more so down, their will be a quite a few windows which will allow you to get out to those closer reefs such as Liza Jane, man and wife, Finlays, and around the close islands.

Offshore: : Over the past week there have been great reports of mackerel at every area of Keppel bay, there have been many reports of people catching mackerel of the beach. There have been reports coming in that they are getting some good spanish from the finlays and the pinnicals. Some nice reef fish and the odd spanish have been found at Liza Jane and the smaller school and grey mackeral around Hummocky. The bigger reds, nannygai and sweet lip have been caught in the wide grounds like the shoal and fern areas, as well as areas like Flat Island and perforated.
Please remember!:
• 28 October 2016 to 1 November 2016
• 26 November 2016 to 30 November 2016
The Coral Fin fish Closure: Fin fish include....Cods and groupers, Coral trout, Emperors, Fusiliers, Parrot fishes, Surgeonfishes, Sweetlips, Tropical snappers, sea perches and Wrasses.
Creeks/Estuary’s: Reports are coming in all over the place about the creek fishing lately. Grunter salmon and the mudcrabs are out and about in the coorooman creek around the rock areas and the deep holes on the full tides. Some nice whiting are being caught on Farnborough beach, Sandy Point and cooee bay beach. The fitzroy river and port alma have been producing huge grunter and salmon and also the odd good barra. Over the past two weeks I went over to Coorooman and fished the incoming tide to see what was around, The first week 5 big 30cm Bream and 2 Grunter around the 47cm size, on the second week I fished the black moon tide and only got 2 grunter 47cm. I have a just had a customer in that went up to Corio Bay with his son and came back with around 25 big bream and was throwing them back as they had enough to eat.
Also coming up soon is the Barramundi closure:
• Throughout the Queensland east coast, a closed season applies to barramundi from midday 1 November to midday 1 February.
Our Jess did very well in the Women That Fish competition and unfortunately you will have to wait for Jess to return with all the results.
Crabbing: The crabs are starting to show around the place with a few good bucks being caught in coorooman Creek, Corio bay. They are still a bit quiet so you need to work hard to find them. The small creeks not in the main channels are the places to crab so if you are planning on trying to catch yourself a feed stay away from channel dropping your pots and head up the small creeks that branch off the main channels.
Well till next time
Thanks and enjoy the fishing
