The fishing was sensational last week, but on Wednesday it all went to crap thanks to a significant change in the water coming down the river. It's gone from salty to fresh. Before that, a lot of fish were caught last weekend on that smaller set of tides; there were 20-30 fish over a metre. Now however, with the changed water conditions and also bigger tides this weekend, things will be a lot harder.

The next set of tides (18,19, 20) will be much better. Concentrate on Corio Bay, Koorooman and Port Alba. The water will be back to normal in about 4 weeks.

On sunday the offshore conditions look pretty good. Those big tides are good for macks and there have been heaps around the Keppel Islands. There are also trout being caught, and a good run of prawns in the bay has caused the red jew (nannygai) and grunter to follow them in.

There are still some good crabs around as well. Put your pots right up the back of the gutters, as far as you can go.
