Report 1/4/16

Post by subeditor » Fri Apr 01, 2016 2:45 pm

The road is passable with most creeks running under the road or not at all. There are still huge potholes, mostly through the properties Glen Isla and Banksia, prior to reaching Halfway Creek Crossing. It is still a good idea to keep those barra rods and reels with your lures within easy reach when travelling on the Stanage Road. It wont take too much rain to bring the creeks up and get those barra moving. There has been a small window to fish off the roads this year, but we need a bit more rain to really make the creeks flow for longer.
The Thirsty Sound, our estuary has been sharing the fish and mighty monster muddies to the boaties who put in the hard yards... The proof came through my shop door recently, only one hour before I gave advice to three lads, where to catch a barra from land. Greg was the man who pulled in the mighty barra, his first barra in fifty years of fishing. Greg and his two mates were beside themselves. I didn't believe them when they said they caught it on a squid. Yep, some dead bait bought from yours truly, they couldn't catch any livies in the cast net so dead bait it was! Off the rock wall between Quail Island and Pier Head, nice tuskies have been pulled in. No big boats have come into town to hit the reef and islands as yet, so nothing to report that I know of out there.
The baby bush turkeys are growing and with the bait and tackle shop being a safe place for all things with feathers, they hangout here. the properties are lush and green, with fat cattle, roos, pigs, dingos, emus, snakes, turtles and echidnas , so have your camera ready - just in case. Remember, there's no shooting on any of the properties, so guns and pig dogs should be left at home when visiting Stanage. If you would like to book some accommodation, I get cancellations almost daily including around Easter and Anzac Day.

Until next time,
Take time to smell the fish

Cheers

Do you have any more updates on the fishing or road? Heading up next week, hoping to head out to Percy's for the weekend.

Hi Brad, Von doesn't monitor the bulletin boards so the best way to get in contact is to call her. Hope you had a good trip.
