Report 21/9/18

Creeks, Rivers & Beaches
The previously windy weather has kept everyone inshore and hiding up the creeks, so the reports have been coming in of some nice catches of mangrove jacks and some good numbers of barras in the recent weeks. The soft plastic enthusiasts have had some good sessions, rigging the plastics weedless and targeting fish around thick timber structure has accounted for plenty of good fish. This time of year is a great time to target barramundi in the snags as they tend to start schooling up around the mouths, stacked up in the timber in good numbers. With the big tides this weekend, and a hightide first up in the morning, the headlands and flats (specifically the timber laydowns in the shallows) will be the best option especially if looking to target barramundi and getting a last crack before the season closes November 1.

Bradley landed this quality Barra while fishing off the Strand jetty it took a mullet slab.

Offshore & Bay
If you are heading offshore you will need to be back before the closure if you have any reef fish. However this doesn’t include mackerel or any of the pelagic species. The tides look ideal for trolling a few lures or rigged baits. The reports have been very good lately with some nice Spanish mackerel and Cobia around. The Palm Island Group in particular Albino Rock has been fishing well. Both Cape Cleveland and Cape Upstart have also been producing some good mackerel of late.

Last weekend saw the Townsville Skindiving Club in partnership with the Australian Underwater Federation, proudly host the annual Queensland State Titles.

The weekend consisted of diving in a pair’s format over two separate days in the reefs off the bountiful Lucinda. With competitors travelling from across Australia to take part, it was always going to highly competitive and extremely fun weekend. Congratulations to everyone who took part and well done to TSC for their efforts in organizing the event.

Bluewater season is here- Tackleworld Townsville have a HUGH range of spearfishing equipment just in, not to mention a massive range specific for Bluewater hunting.

Come in and get yourself sorted ready to slay big pelagic out wide this season.
