Report Thur 19th Oct 06

Post by Brad » Fri Oct 20, 2006 6:06 am

• Some nice barramundi have been taken on lures under the Nathan Street bridge, with late afternoon and early morning prime times.
• Small barra are taking soft plastics at Boundary Road and The Lakes canals during the pushing tide.

• The mouth of the Ross, Alligator and Crocodile creeks are all fishing well for grunter with fish to 60cm being caught on gar fish fillets.
• Vertical jigging soft plastics, just off the bottom around the shipping pylons in Cleveland Bay, is also producing the odd 70cm monster grunter.
• There have been a few reports of smallish barra coming from the rock bars in the Bohle River, with trolling lures in these areas working best.
• Reports indicate that mangrove jack are right on the chew at the moment. Reports of catches of as many as 20 fish in one lure casting session are coming from the Haughton, with shallow diving Cultiva lures and Basstrix soft plastics accounting for 90% of the catches on one occasion.
• The Haughton and Morrissey rivers are still producing some good quality barra on live mullet and herring. However, recently they are proving a little trying with many baits coming back scaled without a hook-up.
• Plantation Creek, in the Burdekin, has been producing some nice mud crabs recently as the tide drops out of the mangroves onto the mud flats.

• Not much to report with strong winds and coral reef closures putting pay to any offshore trips this week.

• With the new moon this weekend the grunter should be right on the chew, with the Cape Bowling Green spit the pick, weather permitting. However, if the weather is not in your favour the mouths of any of the creeks running into Bowling Green Bay should produce grunter.
