Report Fri 27th Oct 06

Post by Brad » Sat Oct 28, 2006 5:08 am

The freshwater reaches of Ross River are producing some metre plus barramundi on surface lures like Tango Dancers and Bills Bugs, particularly late afternoon and into the twilight. Three Mile Creek is producing some good barra on fizzers during the incoming tide.

Cromarty Creek is producing some nice mud crabs and 60cm plus grunter, with whole herring working wounders on the bigger fish. There are still good reports of barra coming from the rock bars in the Bohle River, with trolling lures still doing the job.

Quality mangrove jacks have been taking lures in the upper reaches of the Haughton and big salties in the Morresies.

Most systems from the Burdekin through to Hinchinbrook Channel are producing barra on live mullet, herring and prawn.

Reports indicate that quality grunter are being caught just inside all the capes (Cleveland, Bowling Green and Upstart).

Good flathead are being caught at the mouth of the Bohle on lures, around the sand bar drop-offs.

Not much to report with strong winds and coral reef closures putting pay to any offshore trips this past week. However with the 10 knots forecast this weekend, next week’s report should be full of offshore species.

With the barra closure commencing at midnight Tuesday, this weekend might be your last chance to catch that dream barramundi. The tides look okay for soaking a few live mullet or hearing around your favourite snag.

Play Safe
