Report Thur 2nd Nov 06

Small mangrove jacks and trevally are being taken on soft plastics and small lures on the rising tide around the causeway crossing. Small queenfish are taking poppers up the top end of Ross River.

Plenty of grunter are around at the moment, with fish to 60cm being caught inside Cape Cleveland and Cape Bowling Green. Inside the mouth of Cattle Creek and Balgal Shoals have also been producing some nice grunter.

Quality mangrove jacks have been taking lures in the upper reaches of Burumbush. Some nice fingermark are starting to show up in the mouth of Morrissey and the Barratta creeks.

Davies Reef, Faraday Shoals and the back of Keeper Reef all produced fish last weekend, with little or no run, so this weekend should be even better. Some good red emperor and large mouth nannygai where also caught on many of the shoals, with squid and cuttlefish heads doing the trick.

Faraday Shoals is producing some great pelagic action also, with wahoo and big Spanish mackerel right on the chew at the moment. Plenty of Queensland school mackerel are in Halifax Bay at the moment, with floated pilchards and metal slices accounting for most of the captures.

I am sure you will pick up a good feed of grunter this weekend. With the full moon on Sunday, and a bit of run in the tide, I would suggest either the inside of Cape Cleveland or Bowling Green Bay around the change in the high tides, using small bottle squid or gar fish fillets as bait.

Play Safe
