LAND BASED
Some nice grunter (javelin fish) to 60cm and the odd blue salmon are getting caught at the mouth of the Marina beside the Casino.

INSHORE
The mangrove jacks have really fired up recently, in conjunction with the recent full moon, with some 1.5kg fish not being unusual. Small Cultiva lures are working a treat at the moment on these fish. There have been some real line burning jack stories coming from Morrissey’s Creek recently, so don’t go under prepared if you intend fishing this system this weekend.

The Haughton River is producing some quality javelin fish at the moment with the first hour of the top of the tide tending to be the peak period. Fresh green prawns and mullet strips are producing the goods. There has also been the odd monster blue salmon getting caught in the mouth of Crocodile Creek.

Last but not least, some great news, the reports of mud crabs are increasing, so fingers crossed there might be plenty around for Christmas.

OFFSHORE & BAY
If you managed to sneak out during the last couple of weeks the reef and shoal fishing has been very good with a real mixed bag including coral trout, red emperor, nannygai and some good Spanish mackerel all on offer.

Cleveland Bay has also been producing the odd quality bar cheek trout on soft plastics and there still seems to be plenty of Queensland school mackerel around, although they are a little on the smallish side with most between 55cm and 60cm. So make sure you check your size limits on them.

SUGGESTED SPOTS THIS WEEKEND
It’s likely that the forecast will keep everyone confined to the creeks this weekend so I would get the crab pots out and try soaking a nice strip bait into your favourite snag, for that monster line burning jack.

Play Safe
