Report Thur 15th Feb 07

Post by Brad » Fri Feb 16, 2007 3:47 am

Aplins Weir, Aplins Weir and Aplins Weir is going off at the moment with reports of good barra and mangrove jack coming in every day. Bass Trix and Storm, Wild Eye soft plastics seem to be the lures of choice at the moment. Pallarenda Beach is producing some nice blue salmon, with live mullet appearing to working the best there at present.

The upper reaches of the Bohle River is producing some nice barra on lures, both casting and trolling. A lure with well defined black stripes has been coming up trumps there recently.

The mouths of most creeks in Cleveland Bay and the flats have been producing some nice full mud crabs recently, however there have been plenty of crabs just under size so make sure you get the measuring stick out on all your crabs.

The rocky headland in Cleveland and Halifax bay has been producing some very nice barra. One interesting report this week is the massive schools of mullet in the middle of Halifax Bay. There could be an opportunity in itself there.

Although this weekend looks blown out, the last couple of weekends have produced some good reports of red emperor and coral trout, with the reefs off the Burdekin tending to produce the better results. However Grub Reef has been fishing particularly well for quality coral trout.

With the biggest tides of the year this weekend I would grab a few soft plastics and head down to Aplins Weir around the top of the tide. You won’t be the only one, so try and be patient with your fellow fishers.

Play Safe
