Report Saturday 21 Apr 07

Post by Brad » Sat Apr 21, 2007 8:16 am

Due to the rough conditions over the last couple of weeks the water has really been churned up making it difficult to fish a lot of the usual coastal land based locations. There has been the odd barra caught on live bait off Pallarenda and Toomulla beach but that about it. Phillips Landing near Ayr has produced some nice whiting and flathead recently.
Reports indicate that there has been some nice grunter caught on garfish fillets in Cromarty and Crocodile creek. There have been some super sized salmon around also with Phillips landing producing some big fish on the out going tide while the mouth of the Ross and Alligator have also been fishing well for these fish. There are still quite a few crabs around at the moment with beef bones, fish and chicken frames working well. There has been a few reports of Barra caught in the Haughton River and Crocy on live mullet.
Reports offshore have been a little scarce due to the weather but that should change this weekend.
With the best tide very early Saturday morning and the favourable wind conditions early it looks ideal for chasing a few whiting in your favourite spot. If you don’t have a favourite spot try any find a sand flat at the mouth of a creek and work it with yabbies or peeled prawns and if you like throwing soft plastics try the “Gulp Sand worms”.
