Report 28/5/15

Post by subeditor » Fri May 29, 2015 1:08 pm

With only a few days left to take up this months Tackle World Challenge is to catch a mud crab. There has been some great photos sent in so far. So if you want to join the challenge just simply catch one of these fish and email your photo to us or post it on our facebook page for your chance to win the $250 Tackle Pack
THE ROUNDUP
Unfortunately due to the recent ordinary run in the weather, the only option for fishos to hit the water and wet a line has been in the creeks. There have been some great opportunities for light line lure anglers heading up into the sweet water reaches chasing sooty grunter and jungle perch, with plenty reaping rewards of some quality catches and big numbers. Smaller poppers and stickbaits around the 45mm size are a great option and prove an exciting way to fish for these very aggressive species, pick of the colours would have to be reds and browns. Small grub tail soft plastics also work well, paired with really light jigheads.

In recent weeks there has been some nice bream taking both baits and lures cast along the deeper banks as the tide drops out of the trees. Soft plastics like the Fuze Prawn Heads work great in these situations. When it comes to bait fresh prawns and my favourite for bream chicken breast have been catching plenty of good bream. Burley is the key to bream fishing and often makes the difference between a good days fishing and an average one. Make sure you set your burley pot on the bottom as this will be where most of the bream will be feeding and as they travel along the bank the burley trail will concentrate them around your boat.

It is also worth mentioning that there has been some very good reports of crabs lately so don't forget the pots.

SUGGESTED SPOTS THIS WEEKEND
The winds aren’t letting up completely yet so the creeks will be a great place to head with the larger tides. The following couple of months are great months for catching good quality crabs, with nice full models already being seen in good numbers, so very well worth taking the crab pots along.
