Report 10/7/15

THE ROUNDUP
The creeks have been getting a work over from anglers wanting to wet a line as one of only a few options to do so whilst the winter trade winds have been hanging around without any relief. With different systems fishing with varied results, the larger rivers have produced good number of crabs for those setting the pots, however many of the bucks in the pots are just under legal size, but the ones going over have been very full. The same rivers like the Haughton, Morrisey’s and even the Bohle have been producing good numbers of big flathead, plenty of jacks and good runs of whiting around the mouths and sandbars. The smaller creeks like Crocy and some of the smaller northern creeks like crystal creek, have produced a few barra on the flats or shallower areas holding structure these areas are also holding some big yellowfin bream which is great news.

The beaches have also been worth a hit as the whiting numbers are starting to increase with small peeled prawns a good bait option if you can't get freshly caught yabbies. There has also been some big bream getting around the beaches as well, both these species are great fun to catch on light gear and small lures, surface hard bodies or even soft plastics.

There hasn’t been much chance at all for the bigger boats to head out to the reefs or even to the shoals with the SE winds sticking around. When it does finally decide to calm down the water temp should be nice and cool, just in time for everyone to head out and catch a good feed of mackerel, but until then everyone is sitting and hoping.

SUGGESTED SPOTS THIS WEEKEND
It’s a bit like de ja vu, but the creeks and beaches will be good options this weekend. If you’re lucky, obviously keeping a very close eye on the weather, early Saturday morning may be a good chance to head out into the bay around the shipping channel pylons and hopefully get amongst a few of the school mackerel that should be getting around.

INFO BOARD - Checkout our website for many of the local anglers taking up the "Tackle World Challenge". So get involved I dare you!

Have a great weekend

Thanks to all those that took up the June Tackle World Challenge to "catch a whiting". There can only be one winner and the $250 Tackle Pack goes to Kristy for this great photo
