This month the Tackle World Challenge is for the ladies that love to fish - simply catch a fish and send the photos in. There has been some great photos sent in so far. So if you want to join the challenge just simply email your photo to us or post it on our facebook page for your chance to win the $250 Tackle Pack
THE ROUNDUP
There have been plenty of mangrove jacks getting caught in the creeks. When looking to target jacks with lures it is important to focus your efforts around the pressure points of banks when the water is just on the timber, the right time of the tide is important, if the water is too high the jacks won’t be sitting where you lure will be able to get too. Rigging soft plastics weedless is one way to get your lure right back or deep into the structure where they may be sitting, but good luck getting them out once you hook up, but that’s half the fun. The Fuze Seducer Mullet, is a soft plastic that has been working a treat, and can be easily rigged weedless perfect for those tight structure situations.

We’re hearing more and more quality Spanish mackerel getting around closer inshore and even inside the bay, the boats chasing small school mackerel have been striking lucky and catching some nice Spanish mackerel around 10kg. There has still been plenty of the school mackerel getting caught as well, on the weed beds where the bait is concentrated, either trolling small hard bodies or setting anchor and starting a burley trail with a pilchard floating out on a set of smaller 3/0 gang hooks. There have also been some good numbers of grunter showing up in the bay, the boats chasing fingermark have come across nice runs of grunter up around the 60-70cm mark.

The boats headed offshore have done well lately, both on the shoals and around the reefs. On the shoals there have been some good quality cobia up to 15kg, some nice Spanish mackerel and above average numbers of sailfish getting caught compared to recent years. The water is crystal clean and there is plenty of bait around. Out around the reefs, there has been good reports of large mouth nannygai and the odd nice red emperor, for the boats fishing in slightly deeper water. Up in the shallower water the trouts haven’t been around in huge numbers, there has been plenty of red throat emperors filling up the ice boxes however which is always a good sight.

SUGGESTED SPOT THIS WEEKEND
There could be a small window both days this weekend to sneak out into the bay to chase a few early morning mackerel or grunter, but the best place to wet a line will probably be the creeks. There isn’t a big run in the tide this weekend so making sure to focus along the banks where there will be the best flow on of tide getting the bait moving and the fish active, this is both important for bait fishing and lure angling. There has been plenty of bait concentrating in areas of the creeks, it would definitely be worthwhile taking the castnet along, there really isn’t any substitute for live bait, especially when the barras aren’t super active.

Have a great weekend
