Report 24/9/15

Post by Nicole Penfold » Thu Sep 24, 2015 12:43 pm

The school holidays are in full swing and the weather should drop over the weekend into early next week so there should be plenty of opportunity to get out on the water and catch a few nice fish.

With the full moon on Monday the weekend should fish particularly well and if last month is anything to go by around the same lunar phase there should be plenty of quality grunter around. In recent days there have been some nice reports of fish over the 70cm mark being caught around West point and just inside the three capes Cleveland, Bowling Green and Upstart.
Grunter would have to be one of my favourite fish they are great fighters and when it comes to the dinner table they are number one on my list.
In terms of bait, bottle squid and strip baits work well in particular wolf herring strips so if you have any unused wolfies from the mackerel run don’t throw them away cut them up into strips and catch a grunter or two.

There has also been good reports of barra starting to fire up with some exceptional sessions reported in recent weeks in most creeks and rivers around Townsville but in particular the Hinchinbrook area has been fishing very well with some very good fish coming from the Missionary Bay area.

SUGGESTED SPOT THIS WEEKEND
The tides are quite large this weekend so the bay around red rock and west point should produce some nice grunter. September, October and November are all great months to chase big grunter around the full moon.
