Report 2/10/15

GO THE COWBOYS - Good luck do us proud.

Once again we’ve been hit with a run of unfavourable weather for the offshore boaties, so the creeks have been the best place to wet a line recently. There has been some really good reports of both barras and mangrove jacks dominating the capture lists. Both baits and lures have been working a treat. There has been a trend for the barras recently that has them very aggressive one day, taking larger hard bodies around the snags, then the very next day becoming a little less active, preferring to take smaller soft plastics, better approached with more finesse techniques. The key is to be able to adjust to the situation if preferring to lure fish.
The beaches have also been fishing well, with the children’s fishing classic run over the past Sunday, there were a few nice sized grunters getting caught, great signs of a good run of grunters starting for this time of year. Fresh squid baits and cuttlefish are great options when targeting grunter, even from the beaches. There was also still some quality whiting getting caught. There has been a good amount of smaller prawns hanging around the beaches, this is giving the flathead a reason to school up off the edges of the sandbars, they’ll always put up a great fight for the kids and the light line anglers willing to cast a few prawn imitation soft plastics around.

There hasn’t been too much to report for the offshore fishing, giving the recent weather. There was however one small window to head out, those boats that were lucky enough reported a lot of Spanish mackerel around the reefs, mostly around 6-10kg, taking both floating pilchards and trolled lure. The bottom fishing was however a little quiet and once again the sharks were a hassle for most.

With the high wind warning this weekend (just in time for the long weekend), the creeks will be the best place to wet a line, with roughly 1.5m of run in the tide, most of the local creeks should fish well, the bohle, alligator and croccy, finding where the bait is will be key, focusing longer than usual in these areas, the fish will be there.

INFO BOARD - It's a big weekend "GO THE COWBOYS" - please note we will be closed on Monday due to "Anticipated Celebrations". Have a great weekend - Tackle World Team
