With the neap tides this weekend you need to think slightly different as it can sometimes prove hard to find fish if you just do the same thing you always do.

Neap tides often open up other options like areas of the creek or river that you usually can’t fish because it is hard to hold anchor. These are the areas that will tend to have the most run in the system and the ideal spots to fish during these tides. It is also a great time to set down a good burly trail to keep any of the passing fish around your boat as the tide want take the burly too far away from your fishing area. These principles also work when fishing offshore in areas of the reef or shoals that are too hard to fish usually are great options for downsizing your sinkers when bait fishing or using lighter jigs or jigheads working areas for fingermark or other quality reef fish like trout or red emperor. Neap tides are also ideal for jigging the many wrecks scattered around Townsville.

Have a great weekend
