THE ROUNDUP
We have been recently blessed with calm seas and it looks as though there is still a little more to come and with this the reef has been the place to be, so majority of the reports coming in have been to match.

Those fishing the outside edges of the reefs have been seeing success, catching plenty of trout, nannygai and red throats, and the odd nice red emperor thrown in the mix at night time as well. Large squid baits are a great option as they will stay on the hook as a big red emperor plays with the bait as they will usually do before inhaling.

Dominic was fishing around Burdekin Rock recently when this quality bar cheek trout took off with his bait.

Joel and Josh on a trip with Northern Conquest Charters got into a bunch of Large-Mouth Nannygai like these two.

Those trolling around the reefs for pelagics have also been having a ball, catching plenty of mackerel (some upwards of 25kg+), dolphinfish, yellowfin tuna, and wahoo have also been in numbers out just a little bit wider. Skirted lures, bibbed minnows and bibless high speed lures have all been working nicely. For the heavy tackle game fisherman, out towards the shelf the odd big black marlin has been raised, hooked or tagged, taking both big lures and baits.

Don’t dismiss the creeks this weekend, even though the weather is good enough to hit up the reef again, with the close of the barra season creeping up, there is a chance to catch a barramundi with some quality fish getting around, look towards the mouths of the creeks and trolling lures is a good way to work slightly deeper water. The fingermark have also been on the bite lately with plenty of legal fish found schooling up in snags along the creek mouths, bigger fish have also started to be caught in numbers around the shoal patches in the bay mixed in with the odd nice sized grunter.
