THE ROUNDUP
Another weekend, another windy forecast. A real shame as the mackerel have been thick in recent weeks. During the Townsville Game Fishing Club’s inaugural Ladies Day, one boat managed 16 Spanish mackerel in 1 and half hours, nothing much beats a red hot session on the mackerel all around 10kgs. One lure that has been working a treat on the mackerel around the headlands and out onto the shoals throughout the mack patches is the Speed Donkey from Zerek. Another great option has been a gar rigged with a pink squid skirt or a wog head for the deeper running option. There has been heaps of bait around on the shoals so keep an eye on your sounder and concentrate your trolling patterns around the bait schools. There have also been good numbers of juvenile black marlin around this year. If you haven't done much trolling for juvenile marlin and sailfish then a easy to use option when cashing these fish feeding on the bait around the inshore shoals are 6’’ to 9’’ skirted lures rigged with a single hook.

It a great time of year with the creeks and rivers fishing very well lately with reports of plenty of quality whiting, flathead and bream being caught. When it comes to bream prawns and chicken gut make great baits. In terms of the whiting, yabbies, sand worms and peeled prawns are the best baits. But if you prefer lures then whiting are great fun on small poppers worked over the sand flats and drains. Whiting are surprisingly very aggressive feeders and are great fun this time of year for the whole family.

INFO BOARD
The Townsville Game Fishing Club hosted its first Ladies Game Fishing Day last Saturday. Everyone had a ball with plenty of fish caught despite the weather so it is very likely that it will be on again next year.
Over $3000 was raised and donated to the Townsville Women’s Centre which is a great effort form all involved.
It you are interested in joining the Townsville Game Fishing Club go to there website, Facebook page or next time you are in Tackle World in Domain have a chat to Renee.
