Report Fri 4th Aug 06

The last week has been one of the best in quite awhile as the sun shone brilliantly and sea conditions remained fair. Offshore the action has been spasmodic, however when on song the results are sensational. Game operators are sourcing big Spanish mackerel, northern bluefin tuna and yellowfin tuna on the shelf around the 50m - 100m mark. Inside the outer reef there are a few Spanish mackerel and heaps of sharky mackerel. One impressive catch came from the The Joker where they snared a 30-35kg giant trevally in 9m of water.

Reef fishing remains very consistent with hauls of nannygai taken in the 30m+ sections of the reef. In shallower grounds the coral trout are biting well, with a mixture of gold spot trevally and oceanic queenfish schooling in quality numbers.

Inshore the water temperature has sparked a jelly prawn hatch and there are plenty of eager trevally and queenfish taking advantage of an easy feed. Along the beaches there are reports of quality blue salmon being caught on live baits.

It has been a good spell for the recreational fisho this past week, yet we may embrace another high pressure system over the weekend, which hopefully will pass quickly.
