March thus far has proven to be a very productive period with a good influx of rain which has distributed plenty of bait around.

Inshore the beaches have been alive with jelly prawn hatches bringing in the hordes. Queenfish, trevally, tarpon and the odd barra have been snared and fish numbers are solid, especially during the calm spells of weather. Fly fishos are having the best success being able to imitate jelly prawn presentations which aren't much bigger than a grain of rice.Hotspots have been southern Four Mile Beach and Cooya Beach near the mouth of the Mossman River.

Offshore there are pockets where anglers are registering good schools of mackerel and the turn of the tides has seen them swing into action. Trolling skirts and gold halco lures have been best rewarded. Satellite Reef has seen the best mackerel action. On the bottom nannygai, trevally species and coral trout have been in good enough numbers to make trips worthwhile. There are plenty of fish to sound in 30m plus water and it is a matter for one hungry fish to bite and ignite the others into action. The bite times are fairly short but there are some quality fish around.
