Report 3 May 07

Spectacular weather has forwarded plenty of opportunity for all fishos.
The big news is the action on the reef with the nannygai schools going berserk. Undine and Chinaman's Reefs are offering great fishing in deep water up to 40m. Catching bag limits and fish to 10kg is the norm. Also inside the paddocks the spanish mackerel have let rip in a big way. Sourcing bait schools on the surface will lead you to a swarm of vipers underneath and most are around the 10-12kg mark. Trolling gold Halco lures or floating live baits are accounting for most fish. Inshore the waters are clean and there are queenfish and trevally on the chew. The warm days have also excited barra into feeding and with cooler days on the way, this activity want last for too long. It is good to hear reports of permit to 1kg being taken on the shallow mangrove flats. Less netting in the area is obviously having a desired effect. Fresh peeled prawn on the flats will see you having a ball if you can spot these speed trains.
