Report Tues 3 Jul 07

Post by Brad » Tue Jul 03, 2007 7:46 am

With the good weather on offer fishing reports have been thick and fast. The last couple of months have been wet and windy with not much to report, but that has changed overnight. There are plenty of visitors in town with the mission of snaring a good tropical fish and have been rewarded in most cases. Whilst the sun is shining make the most of the opportunity and fish hard on the tide changes. Game Fishing: small black marlin to 200lb in good numbers at Linden Bank. Also solid numbers of spanish mackerel on the shelf as well as in and around the outer reef.
Reef Fishing: offshore small and large mouth nannygai are prolific in the deeper waters. Closer to the reefs coral trout, bar cheek trout, reef jack, stripeys and sweetlip are biting consistently. The change of the tide is critical when most fish are being caught.

Coastal Reefs: small mouth nannygai, bar cheek trout, stripeys and over sized grassy sweeltip are on offer. Those fishing at night are catching twice the amount as compared to day time anglers. Rivers and Creeks: trevally and queenfish are entering systems in good numbers on clean incoming tides. Live sardines are best placed in the channels inside the mouth. Lure fisherman are casting up the odd good barra and you need to find shallower pockets of water with a higher water temperature. Amongst the snags there are smaller jacks, estuary cod and bream on offer for bait soakers. Around the jetties and pylons there are bream jumping all over your baits with smaller grunter and sicklefish adding some variety. Incoming tides have produced the best results of late. For something different there are good mud crabs on offer and the bigger tides of the month have seen best results. Place your pots well upstream in the smaller arms of the creeks.
