As we venture into September the fishing has definitely gone up a notch or two. Offshore the reef fishing remains very consistent with good hauls of coral trout, nannygai, sweetlip and trevally species all firing. A few spanish mackerel have been taken on floats but they are now easy to rally up with trolling methods. Therefore light game operators are doing very well on the spanish mixing this in with plenty of sharky mackerel and a few smaller black marlin. Calmer days should see these operators venture out to the Linden Banks where they'll tap into more marlin and yellowfin tuna.

Inshore the warmer water temperatures are agreeing with barramundi which are becoming more regular, lure methods are the best. There are now also good sized queenfish and trevally entering systems on the incoming tides and live baits and poppers are doing the most damage. Foe the bait soaker there are good grunter to be caught and there are plenty of black bream around harbour pylons and rock walls.

Along the beaches there has been a good run of queenfish and trevally which fly fisherman are taking advantage of. For the bait soaker peeled prawns are catching plenty of dart and whiting on an incoming tide in clean water.
