Weekly Report 17 Oct 07

Post by Brad » Wed Oct 17, 2007 7:16 am

Currently we are experiencing a week of fresh winds however we had a complete month of superb weather leading up to this: Rivers: lots of trevally and tarpon holding in the deeper holes on major bends of systems. Quality grunter were taken on the flats with the odd blue salmon. Barra were found closer to river mouths and mangrove jack and fingermark were busy amongst fallen timbers.

Beaches: good run of dart and queenfish on the incoming tides and there are barra holding at smaller creek mouths in anticipation of rain. Early mornings produced most fish in low light. Reefs: very solid run of coral trout as they prepare to spawn. Small mouth nannygai are best targeted at night and are quite aggressive following baits right up to the boat. There are smatters of mackerel and they are often the big rogue species swimming isolated. Sweetlip and emperors are biting consistently.

Game: Linden Bank and Opal Ridge on the shelf are firing up with reports of a few smaller marlin in the area. There is however a lot of wahoo, yellowfin and dolphin fish to be had on light tackle at the moment. The recent good weather has allowed most operators to have a good run at these locations. The bigger marlin are still a fair way from the shelf according to long liners but they should arrive in the coming weeks.
