Weekly Report 25 Feb 08

Post by Brad » Mon Feb 25, 2008 11:08 am

The week gone by has seen a lot of fish come on the bite in all departments. This likely has something to do with the big sweeping tides experienced. Game: the shelf up to Linden Bank is littered with yellowfin tuna. There a football fields of birds working the waters and it is a matter of trolling in & out of these. Halco 190D lures in any colour are dynamite. There are a few spanish mackerel & barracuda mixed in with the tuna schools.

Reef: A lot of coral trout have been caught lately even coming in quite shallow. Anglers have reached bag limits with ease but as we speak they are dropping off with the slacker tides. Night time fishing for nannygai has been hit & miss. Some anglers are doing well whilst others are coming home empty handed. There have been good reports of spanish mackerel between Batt & Tongue reef during the bigger tides.

Estuary/ River: plenty of trevally & tarpon working the surface on the deeper bends in large schools. Surface lures are working well. Mangrove jack and estuary cod continue to lure well amongst the snags, fingermark on the slack part of the tide can be caught using live sardines on the deeper snags and barra are patrolling those creek run off as expected. Lures and live bait working equally well.
