Report 2nd Dec 05

The past week has continued to be a block buster for local anglers. The marlin fishing is peaking off the Linden Bank, with Kamari recording two blacks over 1000lb on one particular trip. This was a personal best for owner and skipper John White, and he urges all punters to get out there and have a crack, because this sort of action will not last forever. As he says, 'The Bank is on Fire' !

Rivers and creeks are still recording good catches of mangrove jack and fingermark up to 50cm and the key is to fish the heavy timber. Accidental catches of barra are consistent as these fish are awaiting a solid wet to begin their spawning process. The best way to avoid barra is to use strip baits when going for jacks and fingermark. Trevally and queenfish are frequent catches in the main channels and deeper holes on major sections of estuaries and rivers, particularly on the first of the incoming tide.

Four Mile Beach has just started to fire up, with queenfish and tarpon schools helping themselves to the hapless small bait schools, which are close to the shore. Early starts, at 5am, will see you amongst the action, and fly fishermen should take note, as this is where they will out-gun any other form of fishing.

Reef fishing activity continues on Sunday after the last of this year’s reef closures. The weather looks promising to get back into the trout and mackerel, which were on song prior to this nine day closure.
