Weekly Report 23 Apr 09

Post by Brad » Thu Apr 23, 2009 4:39 pm

We have just pushed through a very busy April with plenty of tourists around lining up to go fishing. The weather has remained fine most of the time and the fishing has been quite reasonable.

River: The fishing has been consistent with plenty of barra caught around small run off creeks on a dropping tide. Mangrove jack have been biting well amongst the snags on deeper banks and fingermark particularly on the neap tides have been active in the deep holes. Trevally and queenfish have come and go on the cleaner sweeping tides concentrating movements to the main parts of the channel. Grunter have been recorded across the flats on a rising tide early morning and late afternoon.

Reef: A consistent month with plenty of coral trout now appearing and the large mouth nannygai continued good form in deeper water. Spanish mackerel
up the ante recently and will continue to improve in coming weeks. Trevally schools such as bludger and tea-leaf have been busy and there are still plenty of sweetlip on the chew. Small mouth nannygai are off to a slow start this year but should really come on the bite soon.
