Weekly Report 9 Sep 11

Post by Brad » Thu Sep 08, 2011 7:23 am

We've seen mixed reports come through of late with some outstanding days followed up by days where the fishing has been a bit tougher. We've seen a string of high pressure systems roll across the country creating windy conditions at times which impedes progress. This is what has been happening. Reef: good supply of coral trout and quality Spanish mackerel have been coming off the boats. Sweetlip, trevally and spangled emperor have been consistent.

River: lots of medium sized queenfish and trevally. Quality javelin fish and fingermark have been recorded on a consistent basis. The barramundi are preferring the new moon phase thus appearing in spritely form every second week. Coastal inshore has seen grey mackerel in good numbers when the weather is calm as well as trevally. Game: good spurts of Spanish mackerel and intermittent reports of encounters with billfish up to 800lb. A lot of visiting seasonal game boats are well and truly on their way up here from down south. The local boys are already geared up and ready for a promising season and super keen to start running the bigger tackle. If we can avoid the blustery winds the fishing overall is definitely good.
