Weekly Report 20 Sep 11

Post by Brad » Tue Sep 20, 2011 6:58 pm

With the arrival of school holidays nationwide we see some good weather on offer and the town in general, and fishing charters on extremely busy. Game: solid reports of wahoo and yellowfin tuna on the shelf. The black marlin have arrived and there's quite a few impressive catches thus far, the best being approx. 800lb. The marlin fishing will only get better over the next two months. Reef: fluctuating reports with some days really firing and others a tad quieter, but that's fishing. Large mouth nannygai, coral trout, spangled emperor some nice red emperor have caught the eye. The better days are definitely coinciding when there is more run in the tide approaching the moons.

River: seeing better results occur with an array of species turning up at various times. Fingermark, mangrove jack and barra have performed admirably with queenfish and trevally patrolling the channels and river proper. The flats have seen some really nice javelin fish show up on the bigger tides. Pre-bookings are essential to secure a fishing trip of any sort as the region is very busy.
