Weekly Report 11 Oct 11

Post by Brad » Tue Oct 11, 2011 9:46 pm

We've just experienced a brilliant run of weather and the fishing has been very impressive. Great time of year to be fishing in the tropics before the wet season kicks in. Game: plenty of big black marlin being caught from Linden Bank right up to the top of the Ribbon Reefs. The Lizard Island tournament saw one of its best in recent years and the up and coming Port Douglas tournament should also be red hot. Plenty of other species in between the big stuff including big wahoo, yellowfin tuna and Spanish mackerel. Heaps of bait in the area attracting the bigger predators.

Reef: good run on the coral trout and red emperor of late. The nannygai aren't in great numbers but the quality certainly is. Lots of trevally species bending rods including Gt's. Other species to add to an impressive count have included cobia, spangled emperor, sweetlip and moses perch. River: lots of trevally moving through, the barra are well and truly on the bite, mangrove jack are aggressive and fingermark are in full flight. Also been some great queenfish caught on the cleaner incoming tides. Good value on our rivers and creeks at the moment.

Overall can't speak more highly of the fishing at the moment and the good weather looks like it should dominate the weather pattern for quite awhile. Bookings generally are extremely tight in all departments for the next month or so.
