Weekly Report 4 Mar 12

Post by Brad » Wed Apr 04, 2012 6:44 pm

With Easter fastly approaching we are bracing ourselves for a super busy week with tourists flooding into town and the weather looks like it's going to be favourable. The good news is that the fishing is quickly improving since the rains have subsided and reports have been very good inshore and offshore. The reefs are seeing good numbers of coral trout return with the small and large mouth nannygai gearing themselves towards to a positive period ahead. Reef mangrove jack are also turning up smashing floating live bait rigs and the old fashioned pilchard. They've had to compete with the Spanish mackerel who are bobbing up in better numbers mainly around the 6kg mark. The reef fishing is growing in momentum each day and it should be productive times ahead.

Closer to home there have been some very impressive fingermark and island trout caught around the headlands and our rivers and creeks have seen some good results as well. Barra, jack, queenfish, trevally, grunter, tarpon and fingermark have all been registered in quality numbers at various times. April traditionally is a good month for our rivers and creeks which begin to reap the rewards of the wet season rains. Overall April is one of the best times to fish as a multitude of species are in a very active mood both coastally and offshore.
