Weekly Report 18 Apr 12

We just come off the back of a very wet and wind 6 day period which did shut the down the fishing momentarily. However we are now getting back out amongst and finding that the inclement weather has not had too much effect. In the river and creeks the jacks are still pumping away amongst the mangrove banks and associated structure with the odd barra prepared to leave their stakeout post and venture up into the shallows to feed in the late afternoons. Fingermark have remained consistent in the deeper holes and channels which have structure and been a solid catch along our coastal headlands. Trevally and queenfish have been mostly active on the incoming tides and with better water clarity on its way we'll see more action in this department. There are a lot of catfish in our systems at the moment so be prepared to encounter a few of these.

Offshore the reef fishing is trying to improve inch by inch with some encouraging signs coming through. Coral trout remain the dominant catch and the nannygai aren't too far away from exploding into full gear turning up in moderate numbers. There's been quite a few gold spot cod on the bite recently with plenty of moses perch, sweetlip and stripeys to keep the action rolling on.
