The weather settled very quickly after that big blow we received for over a week and we have been blessed with idyllic conditions again. It wasn't too long into this fine weather spell that the fishing reports slammed into gear.

On the reef a variety of species came back on the chew including many of the prized species such as large mouth nannygai, chunky coral trout, spangled emperor, reef mangrove jack and quality Spanish mackerel caught on the float. According to Steve Adamson on the Dragon Lady Charter the onlydownside was that the sharks were a bit ferocious at times, but besides that the weather and the fishing has been very much on the positive side. He also reminds us all that we have a reef closure starting this Friday running through to day's end on Tuesday whereby reef fin species cannot be caught or targeted. The experts have predicted that the days leading into this new moon is when the fish will be spawning. The options during this period are game fishing for pelagic species or take a trip up the local creeks and rivers.

On the topic of game fishing there is still activity on the small black marlin on the wide grounds around Pixie Reef along with some northern bluefin tuna and Spanish mackerel in tow. The other news is that quite a few bigger marlin are being registered on the heavy tackle grounds of Opal Ridge and Linden Bank. The last week's rough conditions have been suggested as to the reason why the big black marlin have really kicked into gear. Sizes of these fish have been mostly between the 300lb - 800lb this week.

It is suggested that the winds will strengthen again tomorrow, maybe not to the extent of last week but it will restrict smaller craft offshore. Check your updated forecasts.
